Purpose of the competition:  The ERC supports ambitious research projects in all fields of science aiming at significant discoveries and breakthrough results. The topic of the project is determined by the applicants themselves. The only criterion for project evaluation is scientific excellence.

Budget: EUR 718 700 000

Brief description: is intended for researchers who are between 7 and 12 years post-doctoral. Researchers who successfully defended their first doctoral degree between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2017 may apply for the grant. (inclusive). The maximum grant amount for a project is €2 million (up to €3 million under certain conditions) for projects lasting up to 5 years.
